The Starry Night
What’s your vision of university when you were still high school student? Maybe mine was influenced by lots of Taiwanese dramas partially: playing tennis, taking course in big classroom, and stargazing through astronomical telescope.
From freshman to senior, I have tried and did various things with friends, like mountaineering for waterfall, rappelling, and so on. Of course, including playing tennis and seeing the big classroom (as a student of college of humanities, it’s hard to take course in such a classroom). Nevertheless, stargazing is the thing I haven't had the chance to try until I saw the post of astronomy club, an activity by the name of star party.
I signed up it immediately.
Two weeks later, I got on the tour bus to Carl’s Town in Nantou mountainous area.
“Do you participate in this alone?” One member of astronomy club asked me after we just arrived.
“Yes, I didn’t ask any of my friends.” I said.
“You are amazing.” She responded.
I did worry about that if I spend a night on the mountain with a group of people I never met, will make the trip be embarrassing. However, the girl who talked to me was quite friendly, we are just like friends who have known each other for a long time. Also, the experience of putting up the tents and cooking hot pot with the guys I’m not familiar with is cool. I think I step out of my comfort zone unintentionally.
The night comes soon with the sudden drop in temperature. We were lucky to have a cloudless night sky. The starlight was very resplendent without hidden. The feeling when I saw the starry night is too hard to tell. Amazing, peace, and awesome.
Some members of astronomy club used the astronomy laser pointer to point the
constellation I don’t know, and told the story for me. Like that Orion (獵戶座) is a hunter, so there are two dogs beside him, which are Canis Major (大犬座) and Canis Minor (小犬座).
The sky with billions of star and related stories are enough to make me obsessed, but moreover, that day was the first day of Geminid meteor shower! Then I saw the first meteor in my life! What a gorgeous scene I ever seen!
Except for shooting star, I also saw Orion Nebula (火鳥星雲), Pleiades (昴宿星團) and a comet that has almost invisible tail.
Although that night was too freeze to sleep (the scouring pad put outside even frozen), the touch in my heart is unabated. The decision to come to the Star Party was really the right choice, even it made me a little short of money in December.
